In the recent consultation led by ECHA about Microplastics we stressed the importance of distinguishing the size of the particles. Specifically, recycled rubber granulates used as infill material are not microscopic.

A recent article written and circulated by EMPA, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, clarifies this point describing the impact of micro rubber produced by tyre abrasion that accounts for 97% of the rubber that is dispersed into the environment, comparing it with the impact of infil rubber granulate that account for just 3%.
