The 30th ETRA Conference on Tyre Recycling brought together over 130 participants in Brussels for three intensive days of discussions on Tuesday 25th to Thursday, 27 March.
The conference opened with a tribute and warm thanks to Dr. Valerie Shulman, the unforgettable Secretary General who led the Association from its inception until 2021.
The 30th ETRA Conference focused on the many challenges facing the tyre recycling industries today – and the many innovations that have developed over the last few years and are able to support competitiveness.
In recent years, Europe has shown a remarkable ability to respond to a succession of crises. It has withstood the pandemic and the energy shock. It has made tangible progress on its twin digital and green transition and introduced new policies and new funding instruments to sustain recovery and increase economic growth. However, today the EU must shift its focus to what will drive its future prosperity and competitiveness. Europe is in the midst of a global transformation and is confronted with both the legacy effects of these crises and the impact of long-term structural trends. In a global system where geopolitical tensions, competition for technological supremacy, and the scramble for control over resources are on the rise, Europe’s freedom, security and autonomy depend more than ever on its ability to innovate, compete, and grow.
These aspects were described as even more crucial for Tyre Recycling Industry which is an SMEs sectors and hence more exposed to the contradiction of global competition and to unfair practices.
Presenters and discussants had the opportunity to highlight some of the steps that will be necessary to make in order to overcome the challenge ahead. Key issues, options, opportunities and potential pitfalls were presented and discussed.
The event featured insightful panels on market developments, policy challenges, and cutting-edge innovations shaping the future of the industry. Throughout the conference, the most current topics were presented, showcasing advancements in public procurement, mobility solutions, pyrolysis, and upcycling technologies.
The Conference was preceded on Tuesday 25th March by a workshop on sustainable mobility attended by over 50 participants.
New projects and ideas have been discussed either in the Workshop or during the networking or after hours contacts.
